Personal Home Care Services in Edmonton, AB with a personal touch!

Donna Wynn
Certified Professional Consultant on Aging

Donna Wynn, BA, CPCA, Executive Director

Donna Wynn has been involved in helping people with physical, mental and emotional challenges for over 10 years. Born and raised in the Edmonton area, she has a strong connection with the local community and a true desire to help others. Over the years, she has seen first-hand the challenges that her own family members have faced with illness, aging and providing family support. Both grandmothers dealt with challenges that affected Donna deeply. She witnessed the toll that caring for a loved one took on her family, wishing there had been more help and support available.

As her own parents are aging and want to remain in the home they love, Donna supports their choice while recognizing the importance of preserving a safe, comfortable home environment. “They want to remain at home forever”, says Donna and. “I know now I can help them do that. I see how important their personal routines and habits are; their favorite chair, rooms and belongings and I want them to have the choice to do what is right for them. I have this same desire to help other seniors in our community.”

As owner and Executive Director of Retire-At-Home Services in Edmonton, Donna Wynn will continue the company’s reputation of quality care for seniors into her community, treating all her clients as though they were her own family.

Dustin Lyall
Certified Professional Consultant on Aging

Dustin Lyall, CPCA, Executive Director

Dustin has lived in Edmonton all his life. He is a single parent, who delights in his time with his young daughter. Dustin has been in business since his part-time, concert promotion venture during his high school years. He has owned, operated and sold multiple unit restaurants and delivered training to other restaurant managers. He has owned and managed rental properties, and established a company that provides services to the construction industry. Until joining Retire-At-Home, Dustin said his business ventures had been focused on making a living. Call it maturity, or simply new family priorities, he became aware that he wanted more from his work. In Dustin’s words “I wanted a career that’s good for my soul, not just my pocketbook.”

The more Dustin learned about the home care business the more energised he became about working with a segment of the population that has been underserved. Throughout his childhood and teenage years, he observed the stress his parents experienced, and he deeply felt the loss, as each of his grandparents developed a different age-related illness and subsequently passed away. Dustin personally witnessed the challenges his grandparents faced as they struggled with loss of health, mobility, cognitive capacity and freedom. He said he wished that they could have simply died of old age as his 101-year old great grandmother had done.

Dustin chose to work with Retire-At-Home Edmonton because their service philosophy is based on dignity, respect and supporting independence. He strongly believes in a high level of commitment to service, compassion and mutual respect for both clients and caregivers.

Vicki Mather
Certified Professional Consultant on Aging

Vicki Mather, PhD, APR, CPCA, Executive Director

Vicki felt like she had come home when she joined the Retire-At-Home Edmonton family. Her prior career spanned high school and university level teaching, delivering services to teachers, and programming to communities. Late in her 25-year career with the Alberta Teachers’ Association, Vicki headed up a nationally recognized, non-profit organization that grew out of a violence prevention program she developed. That program earned a Best Practice Award from the United Nations Centre for Human Settlements. Vicki’s research and graduate level teaching focused on professional conduct – the highly competent delivery of excellent service in a respectful, caring and trustworthy environment where even the most vulnerable can feel safe. Believing in the responsibility to give back, Vicki has been engaged in charity work as a volunteer throughout her life, and was recognized with the 2007 Edmonton Woman of Distinction award.

Retire-At-Home Edmonton drew Vicki’s attention when Dustin discussed it with her. Vicki lost her parents at the busiest time of her life while working full time and raising three children. She experienced her father’s years of suffering following a grossly debilitating stroke, and later her mother’s battle with cancer and subsequent dementia. She felt the overwhelming sense of being torn with multiple responsibilities and loyalties. She sympathized with the workers’ challenges in her father’s understaffed care facility and appreciated the compassion shown by her mother’s palliative caregiver.

After an early retirement Vicki attained the necessary licences and worked in financial services. She also renovated and managed vacation properties, but felt there was something missing in her life. Vicki is now a Certified Professional Consultant on Aging (CPCA)™ and is reliving the satisfaction she once derived from knowing that her work is contributing to a better life for others.
